What is Navitas? Navitas is an Australian for-profit education provider owned by private equity firm BGH Capital. It recruits international students through an alternative entry “pathway program,” which operates as a privatized, revenue-driven model embedded within public institutions. These programs often charge very high fees while offering limited academic support, raising concerns about the outsourcing of education to corporations that prioritize profit over student success. By relying on private companies like Navitas, universities risk eroding the accessibility, transparency, and academic standards of public education.
To learn more about the potential implications about the proposed partnership with Western University and the for-profit with Navitas visit the UWOFA website which has an FAQ page and other helpful resources.
If you wish to express and voice your concerns please send your comments to any of the members in the Senate ad hoc Committee to Review the Navitas Proposal, and also to any of the Senators you may know, or feel comfortable approaching. You will find the senate members list HERE.
Also, PSAC 610 is organizing a rally for Thursday April 3rd at 12pm at UC Hill to raise concerns about the outsourcing of international student education. All members are welcome to attend.
