Dear Fellow UWOSA Members,
* BILL 124 UPDATE *
In light of the recent announcement that Bill 124 has been deemed unconstitutional (https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ontario-court-strikes-down-wage-limiting-law-for-public-sector-workers-1.6173578), we remind each of you that UWOSA had negotiated a Wage Reopener in the form of a Memorandum of Agreement with Western should this occur.
We ask you to please read the MOA so that you are educated and informed. To access the Wage Reopener:
- Log in to the UWOSA website
- Click on the Members tab
- Click on the Governance, Agreement and Forms tab
- Scroll down to Letters of Understanding
- Click ‘Wage Reopener MOA for 2021-24 Collective Agreement’
In order for UWOSA to provide notice to the Employer to negotiate the annual wage percentage increases, Bill 124 needs to not only be declared unconstitutional/struck down, but all possible appeals need to be exhausted and a final decision needs to be rendered.
The announcement is indeed good news and a step in the right direction, however we are assessing with our legal team if we are yet in a position to provide notice to the Employer to negotiate.
We ask for your patience while we continue to assess the situation and advocate for our membership. We will keep you updated on the progress.
In Solidarity,
UWOSA Executive Committee
(Nikki Grozelle, Jen Heidenheim, Meg Perinpanayagam, Lori Johnson, Natalie Samuel, Cleusa De Oliveira and Emericks Rivas)
