UWOSA’s strength lies in it’s smart, organized, dedicated, and caring members! Whether it’s on a committee, the Stewards Council, or on the UWOSA Executive, there is a place for YOU.
To learn about the UWOSA Committees, please visit the “Governance Agreements and Forms” page of the Members Area of the UWOSA website (login required) to view each committee’s Terms of Reference. Briefly:
- The Membership Newsletter and Social Committee publishes Member Bulletins and organizes events like the Annual Winter Luncheon. If you are a party planner this is the committee for you!
- The Finance Committee works with our financial advisor to manage our investment portfolio, and helps prepare each year’s annual budget. If you like to crunch numbers and see where your union dues go, this is the committee for you!
- The Constitution and Bylaws Committee regularly reviews UWOSA’s Constitution and Bylaws to suggest updates and revisions. If you are a policy person, this is the committee for you!
- The Education and Training Committee looks into programs and policies to advance the educational and training needs and interests of members. If you are an advocate of life-long learning, this is the committee for you!
We also have a vacancy for a UWOSA representative on the UWO/UWOSA Joint Laboratory Safety Committee. If you would be interested in learning more about this role please email info@uwosa.ca.

UWOSA Stewards are leaders, educators, communicators, and advisors in their areas, acting as a conduit for information between the membership and the Stewards Council, answering member’s questions, advocating for their rights, and welcoming new UWOSA members to their area. If you would like to learn more about the role of a Steward please email info@uwosa.ca. Please note that a Steward does not need to be a member in the area they represent, though that would be the preference.
We also have a vacancy in the UWOSA Executive Council for the role of Vice-President until the end of the current term (April 30, 2026) or until the next election for the Vice-President position. Responsibilities of the Vice-President are outlined in section 7.4 “Officers of the Association” of our Constitution.

If you would like to self-nominate for the role, please email a brief biography of your qualifications (maximum 200 words) to info@uwosa.ca by September 6, 2024 to be submitted for review to Stewards Council.
Applicants will be notified by the President with the date they are expected to attend a Stewards Council meeting to provide a brief (5 minute) presentation to Council members. After all presentations, a vote will be held by Steward Council members to determine the next Vice-President.
