UWOSA AGM - Thursday, April 21

UWOSA's Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21st at 12:00 pm in the Labatt Health Sciences Building, Room 40. Agenda packages were mailed out to members today.

As a UWOSA member, you are entitled to 2 hours of release time (including your lunch break) to attend the AGM. For members who work off the main UWO campus, reasonable travel time up to one hour in total is also provided.

Please remember to bring photo identification to gain admittance to the meeting.

UWOSA Retreat Cancelled

Unfortunately, due to low enrolment, the 2011 UWOSA Retreat has been cancelled.

Instead, UWOSA will be holding Lunchtime Training Sessions on campus over the next few months.

We're hoping to have many of the same sessions described in the Retreat brochure available to you during your lunch period, right here at Western. Details regarding these Lunchtime Training Sessions will be sent to you as soon as they are confirmed.

Applying for UWOSA vacancies?

Article 12 – Vacancies

One of the gains we made at the negotiations table last year was a significant addition to the language of Article 12.03 d).

UWO is now required to inform UWOSA of the name of the successful applicant as soon as a position has been filled. In the past, we either had to wait until the lists were posted on the HR website which could take several months or contact UWO with specific requests for such information.

The benefit to you is that, if you are unsuccessful in a UWOSA job competition, we can provide you with the name of the person who was selected; this will assist you in deciding whether or not to grieve the hiring decision. As a reminder, Article 12.03 c) states that seniority is the determining factor when 2 or more applicants have relatively equal SAQs.

Also, under Article 12, UWO must consider all internal applicants before hiring externally for UWOSA positions.

Committee Vacancies - Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to be members on the Job Evaluation Appeals Committee and the Advisory Committee on Parking and Traffic.

Job Evaluation Appeal Committee (JEAC)

The mandate of this committee is outlined in Article 44.05 of the collective agreement. The ideal nominee would be in a technical classification, as the departing member currently represents this skill set on the committee.

Advisory Committee on Parking and Traffic (ACPT)

We are looking for a member AND an alternate member for the ACPT under the terms of University Policy 1.22, Section 4.0 clause (b). The terms of the member and alternate to be appointed by UWOSA, on behalf of Western Parking & Visitor Services, will be for two years, July 1, 2011 until June 30, 2013.

If either of these positions interests you, please forward a completed Committee Appointment Request Form, found at http://uwosa.ca/sites/default/files/CommitteeApp.pdf to me at UWOSA, UCC 255, via email to: mary.hay@uwosa.ca, or by fax to ext 82180 by Monday, March 14th.
