UWOSA supports UWOFA-LA

UWOFA-LA, representing librarians and archivists, has been in negotiations with Western's administration since April. Many of these sessions have taken place in the presence of a provincially appointed conciliator. On August 15, the negotiation team requested a "no-board" report, which has resulted in the Librarian and Archivist unit being in a legal strike position at 12:01 a.m. on September 8.

UWOSA is asking all of its members to support Western's librarians and archivists during this time. We will keep you informed of any information pickets or rallies that are planned. Let's make sure we show our solidarity!

Many UWOSA members work in libraries across campus. If you are one of these members, you should be aware of your rights under our contract when it comes to supporting our fellow unions either on strike or locked out here at Western.

UWOSA members are required to report to work, even if this requires crossing a picket line. However, Article 5.04 says the following:

"Employees have the right to decline to perform the normal duties of striking or locked-out employees of the employer during a legal strike by another bargaining unit of employees of the employer or during any lock-out of another bargaining unit by the employer."

Contact your union office at info@uwosa.ca or ext 83028 if you have any concerns or questions during this time.
