UWOSA Appoints Membership Services Officer

UWOSA is pleased to announce that the Stewards Council appointed Natalie Samuel as its new Membership Services Officer.

Natalie has been actively involved with the Membership Newsletter and Social committee for the past four years to organize and plan events for the membership. "The Membership Services Officer role appealed to me because of my interest in meeting new people and sharing new and similar interests. As well, my enjoyment for planning and organizing events and being involved in the community,"said Natalie when asked about her new role.

Natalie works in the Faculty of Law, Career Office where she plans, organizes, and coordinates events. Her experience of being involved in a number of community events from fundraising for Western Heads East, United Way Stair Climb Team Captain, United Way Sponsored Employee, and Dinners at the Ronald McDonald House will be assets to her new role. Away from Western, Natalie enjoys recreational activities including rock climbing, volleyball and other sports as well as dabbling with new recipes in the kitchen.

Natalie is looking forward to meeting fellow UWOSA members and exploring new and different interests for our membership. If you have an idea to share, or want to join the Membership, Newsletter, and Social Committee, please contact Natalie.

Update from our UWOSA President

Dear UWOSA Members,

For those of you that were not able to attend today’s Annual General Meeting, the membership in attendance voted overwhelmingly to increase our monthly dues by 0.45% from 1.25% set in 1998 to 1.7%.

This increase will ensure that UWOSA will continue to be able to represent our members and has allowed us to pass a balanced budget for 2017-2018. As per Article 6.01 of the Collective Agreement, we have sent written notice of this change to the University and expect the change to be reflected on our May pay.

On behalf of the UWOSA Executive, Stewards Council and Finance Committee, I would like thank all the members who attended this important meeting and participated in the discussion.

John Critchley
President, UWOSA

A Message from our UWOSA President

Dear Fellow UWOSA Members,

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the upcoming UWOSA Annual General Meeting being held on Tuesday, April 25th at 12:00 pm in the Arts and Humanities Building (AHB), Room 1R40.

This is an important meeting as we will be discussing and voting to approve the 2017-2018 operating budget. As you should be aware from the agenda sent out on April 12th, under a recommendation from UWOSA’s Finance Committee, a motion will be made to raise our dues by 0.45% which would increase our current dues set in 1997 at 1.25% to 1.70%.

In addition, your UWOSA Negotiating Team is preparing to enter into collective bargaining with the university to negotiate a new collective agreement. Information and updates on the bargaining process will be provided at this meeting.

We will also be providing information on the current state of our job evaluations and the new Job Evaluation System as well as the status of our formal complaint with the Pay Equity Commission against the University.

I urge every member to attend this important meeting. Please remember, as per Article 7.07 in the Collective Agreement, all UWOSA members are entitled to two hours without loss of pay to attend the Annual General Meeting (this includes our regularly scheduled meal period). For those members that work off main campus, you are entitled to an additional hour to allow for travel time.

Please notify your supervisors as soon as possible of you intent to attend the meeting and please email us at info@uwosa.ca if you are prevented from attending.

Thank you.

John Critchley
UWOSA President
